The General Fund helps us respond when an eligible dog needs cancer treatment. Alongside individual fundraising campaigns, it provides vital funding towards treatment costs and helps us give dogs a fair chance against cancer.

The owner applies for help
The owner applies to the Foundation and provides information about their financial circumstances and their dog’s treatment.
Our Financial Review Team first assesses the owner’s financial eligibility. If the financial criteria are met, our Veterinary Review Team assesses the proposed treatment.

Funding is approved and we fundraise
If the case meets our financial and veterinary criteria, we approve funding and launch an individual fundraising campaign to help support the dog’s treatment.

The General Fund helps fund treatment
Donations to the General Fund provide a significant contribution towards treatment, alongside donations raised through the individual campaign.
Together, this funding helps ensure the dog can receive the treatment they need.
Who does the General Fund help?
We support eligible dog owners in England who are unable to afford their dog’s cancer treatment.
Every application follows a structured review process:
Financial review → Veterinary review → Funding decision
The financial review comes first. If the financial criteria are met, the application is assessed by our veterinary team.
The financial review considers whether the owner has the means to pay for treatment. The veterinary review considers whether the proposed treatment offers a realistic prospect of extending the dog’s life by at least 12 months compared with not receiving treatment.
This process helps us make sure donations are directed towards dogs where our support can make a meaningful difference.
Our commitment to transparency
We understand that trust matters when you choose to support a charity. That’s why we are committed to being transparent about how your donation is used.
100% of donations from individuals and sponsors go directly towards funding cancer treatment for dogs in need. Our founder, Kevin Flaherty, covers the Foundation’s operational and startup costs, so every pound donated can be dedicated to helping dogs affected by cancer.
